Hello there Student,

My name is Mark O., and I grew up in Revere, MA. I went to Revere High School then got my BSEE degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. While working, I took 33 graduate course credits in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst as well as Lowell with a 4.0 GPA. I have taken online courses from MIT and others as well. I can help you with Math, Physics and of course Electronics. I have spent over 30 years in the Electronics Engineering field and found it very rewarding. I look forward to helping you to prepare for your chosen profession in the Science and Technology field. I have tutored high school and college students in math and physics.

I will give you a tip I have learned while working homework problems, especially in Physics: Always carry the units! It has saved me many times. If you end up with the expected units, your answer has a good chance of being right, if not, your numerical answer is definitely incorrect. Another tip: One of the most effective teachers I ever had was a Mr. George Biernson from the University of Massachusetts in Lowell. His philosophy was to break things down to their essence and get to the heart of the matter. He was in good company, one of Albert Einstein's sayings was "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler." With this philosophy in mind, my approach is to take the material and try and break it down into its essential parts, making it easier to digest if you will. I will try and find out what concepts are not being comprehended and concentrate on a better understanding of them.

For tutoring Math I utilize the computer program MathCAD which is useful for visualizing concepts and hence enhance understanding the material.

I am very easy going and patient. I want you to learn and succeed. And remember, Math and Science are your friends. :)

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. DOS

I built my first IBM based PC back in the early 80s. I worked for Wang Laboratories at the time and used the Wang PC extensively as well (both DOS operating systems). I tailored autoexec.bat and config.sys system files for optimum performance. I still use the "command" DOS prompt to do things that Windows will not let me do.

Electrical Engineering

I have a BSEE with Honors from Northeastern University, 33 graduate credits from UMASS Amherst/Lowell with a 4.0 GPA and an online certificate from MIT in EE. I have worked over 33 successful years designing Control and Communications products. I hold a patent in cable TV technology: "Cable television control apparatus and method with channel access controller at node of network including channel filtering system."

Linear Algebra

I have used Linear Algebra extensively during my career as an Electronic Engineer. I mainly used MATLAB and MathCad for simulating a telephony channel used to transmit DSL signals. In order to provide an accurate end to end channel model the DSL modem hardware had to be modeled as well so I used matrix methods to model the electronic circuitry in the modems. I used 2-port chain matrices to model the general circuitry over all while the solution to systems of equations using determinants and inverses where used to model the more complicated 3-port hybrids. I used the rank of the resulting matrices to validate the integrity of the model. I used vector calculations to simulate the over all frequency domain simulation. I used systems of over and under determined equations to perform a least squares best fit data model for some of the circuit components characterized by empirical laboratory data. I used optimization techniques of matrix theory methods including Differential Evolution as well standard optimization techniques to characterize some of these empirically defined components such as multi-winding transformers. I used vector characterizations of mean and standard deviation of the frequency domain vectors to obtain the the DC and AC RMS power contained in these vector signals. I mentored colleagues in the application of the techniques I had developed and form the basis for two patent applications.

MATLAB

I worked over seven years developing data communication system channel models using MATLAB extensively. I developed numerous data communications simulation utilities in MATLAB. I wrote several dozen data comm. modem hardware circuit simulations using the symbolic processor in MATLAB. My channel modeling work was the basis for Time Domain Reflectometry patents applications.
