Hello,

I am licensed through the state of Massachusetts to teach English for grades 5-12. I am a Commonwealth and Departmental Honors graduate of Bridgewater State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a Writing concentration and in Communications with a concentration in Theater Arts. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 3.97 GPA in May 2016. I began tutoring through the National Honor Society while at Ursuline Academy high school, and am currently a substitute teacher in the Dedham Public Schools. I passed the Communication and Literacy MTEL and my English MTEL.

While at Bridgewater State University, I worked as a peer assistant in college level English classes, helping students to improve their writing and study skills. I have also helped many friends and students of various ages ranging from first graders to adults with math, science, and English assignments as well as Bible studies, reading, Spanish, public speaking and SAT preparation, and became a Sunday school teacher in September of 2016. I have been an honor roll student since the beginning of middle school. I take pride in academic excellence and strive for understanding as well as high marks. I deeply value education in all subject areas, and I try to make subject material memorable and less daunting.

I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. This is because I cannot fit in another student on such short notice, and I clear my schedule for these lessons. Also, I may not see a cancellation message in time. For late cancellations, I charge half of what would have been charged for the full lesson. If a student fails to notify me of a cancellation before the lesson, or before I have to leave to be at the proper location on time, I will charge for a full lesson.

In addition to traditional lessons, I am available for online lessons and for proofreading via email.

Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I graduated from Bridgewater State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a concentration in Theatre Arts. I took a public speaking course in 11th grade, then a communications course in 12th grade and another public speaking class my freshman year of college. Also, I have spoken in my church on behalf of my youth group, and prepared and delivered two Oratorical speeches, winning the Oratorical Competition regionally both times and competing nationally in Chicago in 2011 and in Houston in 2013. In addition, I have performed on stage countless times in plays and musicals, often needing to improvise, particularly in my school's original immersive production based on J.M. Barrie's "Peter Pan." I have also presented work from my classes and my Honors Thesis at undergraduate research conferences at my university as well as the regional conference at University of Massachusetts Amherst. I have experience with public speaking in front of crowds of varied sizes, and have tutored public speaking through WyzAnt.

Corporate Training

Grammar,

Grammar

My major centered around grammar, and I know how important it is to use proper grammar in essays and on applications. Some people believe that good grammar means good thinking. While this is not true, using proper grammar can be the difference between getting the job and not getting the job, or an A as opposed to a B. Therefore it is important to know and be able to apply the rules of grammar.
Proofreading,

Proofreading

I have peer edited many papers (and short stories) in my life, from strong writers and not so strong writers. Spelling and grammar can confuse readers, and Microsoft Word does not catch all of the mistakes. I have become skilled in proofreading and both interpreting and fixing very confusing spelling and grammar errors.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored students of various ages in elementary school. I also have worked as a teacher's aide in Sunday school for Pre-K and grades 1, 2, 5, and 6, and a Sunday school teacher beginning in September 2016. During my senior year of high school, I volunteered in a fourth grade classroom for a month. While there, I taught the students long division and reading, among other subjects. During that time, I also spent a day helping in a first grade classroom and a day in a second grade classroom as well. I have helped with homework while working as a babysitter for many years, and I am around children often. I know how to break down information to make it more interesting, as well as easier to understand.
Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

Math is very important for all students, though I know it is not everyone's favorite subjects. It certainly was never mine. However I have successfully guided students through Elementary Math, including tutoring grades 1-6 and teaching a classroom of fourth graders how to do long division. Having a good foundation in Elementary Math will help children prepare for middle school and high school, as well as the SATs. A student who feels confident in his or her mathematical abilities will succeed on the SATs, and I inspire that confidence while helping my students build their skills.

Bible Studies

I am a very religious Christian. I have been a teacher's aide in Sunday school at my Church, Secretary and Vice President of my church's youth group, and I was at the head of my Sunday school graduating class. I began a small branch of a religious organization on my college campus during my sophomore year and founded another during my senior year. I went to a religious Christian summer camp in Pennsylvania for eight years, during which we had daily Christian education lessons. I have studied for and participated in Bible Bowl competitions for years, and written two Oratorical essays using the Bible as a source; the first Oratorical competition I won at the regional level and was sent to compete nationally in Chicago, Illinois in 2011, the second Oratorical competition I won at the regional level again and competed in Houston, Texas in 2013. I attended Ursuline Academy, a parochial high school for girls, for four years, where religion was taught as a formal class daily. I am on the Religious Committee as well as the Executive Board at my church, and am teaching a class of Sunday school students beginning in September 2016.
