My daughter, who is a sophomore at the Universty of Pennsylvania, needed to work with someone to prepare for her Calculus BC final, which she had postponed due to illness. We found Lisa on WyzAnt and she was terrific. When she couldn't get some of the problems during their first meeting, Lisa was kind and thoughtful enough to work them out after getting home and brought the answers to my daughter. She also took some of the practice tests home with her in order to prepare for their next session. We had only anticipated having Lisa tutor for a few hours, but we turned out having her come for 7 hours! She is very professional and extremely bright, and I highly recommend her.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As you prepare to take the math portion of the SAT it is a good idea to take some practice exams and to review the subject areas that appear on the test, including:

-arithmetic and geometric sequences

-special right triangles (45-45-90 and 30-60-90)

-circles

-percents, ratios, and proportions

-parallel lines cut by a transversal

-functions in the coordinate plane

-probability

-solid geometry

-factorization of integers

In addition to knowing the material it is helpful to practice test taking skills such as:

-using the answer choices to help (for multiple choice questions)

-process of elimination

-reading and analyzing the questions carefully

-time management during the test

-knowing when to guess
