I have been a public school teacher for 25 years and have taught grades K-2. I am also a reading specialist and have worked with children using multi-sensory language techniques to support children in all aspects of language acquisition. I am able to assess a student's individual needs and then tailor instruction to help a child become more fluent and confident in their ability to read and to write.
I love books and reading and hope to inspire my students to love reading, too. I try and expose/match my students to books they might find to be of high interest as well as to authors and genres they might like. Reading can be a very tedious task - especially if you don't think you are good at it. However, to become a better reader you must practice every day! Mastering basic reading skills while reading great books is a must in order to motivate a child to become a better reader.
I am both a licensed reading specialist (K-12) and early childhood teacher (K-3). I currently teach grade 2.
I am a trained teacher of multi-sensory language instruction. I am able to assess your child's target area of need and tailor instruction to support that need.
I love children, books and dogs! I love to pass on my love of books and reading to children! I also love to help children develop strategies that enable them to read and to feel like s/he is a confident reader. Nothing breaks my heart more than to hear a child say, "I hate reading." Every child can be a fluent reader with support, encouragement and the right text in their hands! I have been a public school teacher for 25 years and have taught grades K-2. I am also a reading specialist and have worked with children using multi-sensory language techniques to support children in all aspects of language
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
