Ithaca Colege (Speech and Language)
Lesley University (EdD)
I am currently teaching grade 4 at Bentley Academy in Salem. I have taught ELA for 8 years at Salem Academy Charter School. And I am originally from upstate New York. I attended Ithaca College where she received her Bachelors degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology.
I have a variety of teaching experiences which include raising her own four children, being an owner/director of a multi-age early childhood center, and working with student populations in Middleton and Lowell. In 2003, I received a Master's degree in Elementary Education from Lesley University. I enjoy gardening and cooking and hopes one day to publish a children's picture book.
Reading is the foundation on which all other learning sits. It is a marathon and not a sprint and requires daily practice. It can be overwhelming at times, however my experience and love of the subject translates into my instruction. I have a solid understanding of both the reading and writing process.
I hope that students and families will benefit as learners and unique individuals through our instructional time together. While I enjoy the classroom setting, teaching one to one affords the time for even more individualized lessons that support what each student needs in a way that suits them best. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
