About Betsy

I recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard in a social science field. I have taught undergraduate and graduate courses and am a kind, patient, and compassionate teacher with a sense of humor and significant experience. I have professional experience working with children, adolescents, and adults, and I enjoy working with people of all ages.

Because of my academic interests and background, I am particularly interested in helping students to overcome roadblocks to completing a lengthy project such as a thesis or dissertation. There are many factors that can delay progress on academic work, including difficulties with organization and planning, motivational barriers, and procrastination. In our work together, we can identify the particular factors that prevent you from moving forward, and we can develop specific strategies to work around them. We will focus on the process and moving you toward project completion; I will not ghostwrite, critique your research ideas, or provide statistical support.

In addition, I would be happy to tutor for the SAT, ACT, or GRE. I scored over 700 out of 800 on each subject of the SAT and GRE. I am a native English speaker and would love to teach English as a second language (ESL). I have published scientific papers incorporating statistics and would be happy to teach SPSS (not in a thesis/dissertation context).

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
