B.A., University of Massachusetts-Amherst
A little about me. I attended parochial school in Chelsea and Everett for a combined 10 years. I was an average student. My mother encouraged me to excel, but I was painfully shy and second guessed myself constantly. In the 5th grade, I had a teacher Mrs. C. who took me aside and pointed to the smartest girl in the class. Mrs. C. said, "There is no reason why you can't be the smartest girl in the class if you wanted to be. There is absolutely no difference between you and Leslie (said smartest)."
I looked at Leslie and I thought about what Mrs. C. had said and the more I thought about it, the more it made sense.
Why not me?
From that moment on, I applied myself. I made high honors that year. From the fifth grade until the 8th grade, I was a high honors and/or honor roll student. By the 8th grade, I tested within the 95th percentile. It as explained to me at the time that if I walked by 100 people, I was smarter than at least 95 of them. In those three years, my confidence grew and my thirst for knowledge could not be slaked. It as not enough for me to do well, I was driven to excel. At graduation, I was Salutatorian (what can I say? Leslie had a 6 year jump on me!) and received a scholarship to Pope John XXIII High School.
My love of education followed me through high school and college. I competed in Forensics Society and Science Clubs, I played sports, I threw myself in my education and extracurricular activities. I have studied in England as well.
I have been tutoring since April of this year and I really enjoy it. My specialty is ESL and I can tutor in a variety of other subjects.
In my family, education has always taken the highest priority. My mom calls it the "great equalizer," opening doors wherever one goes. I like to think one of my students may be president one day. Anything is possible! I encourage my students and I believe in building their confidence and self-esteem. I want them to believe in themselves as much as we believe in them.
I am patient and professional. I prefer to tutor at the Chelsea Public Library and I am willing to travel for the appropriate situation.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or needs.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
