About Felicia

I am a scientist and an educator, passionate about helping students achieve their highest potentials. I do not just help students with content knowledge, but also show them ways to learn and help them aspire to higher goals. Many of my students bond with me as friends.

While I was working actively in research projects with NASA and at MIT, I started helping students find their interests and good matches with colleges. I am also on the Education Council at MIT, being involved with applicants' intake interviews. I can teach all math subjects and all science subjects, as I was trained in both the biological sciences and the physical sciences. My time table is more flexible now, and I would like to work with students who are thinking of applying for admissions to universities.

I have over 15 years of tutoring experience, both here in the US and overseas. Being trained as a scientist and an engineering, and having studied and worked at MIT, I have much insight into the learning of mathematics and the joy of mathematics. I am also an exceptional tutor in all the sciences, since I was not only a research scientist, I was also the creative director of many K-12 interactive programs produced on educational channels, and in collaboration with NASA's Education and Outreach Division.

You are welcome to contact me through email to further explore possibilities.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chinese

I have been the principal of a Chinese school in Boston, and in Newton before that. I have been intimately involved in curriculum and program design for both schools. I was also an active member of the AP Chinese curriculum team for several international schools in Hong Kong.

I have also been tutoring Chinese as a Second Language, and in the last several years, all of my students taking the Subject Test in Chinese Language scored at least 750 out of the possible 800.

College Counseling

I have been counseling students for college admissions since 2001. I work not only with my students but also with their families, to help them identify schools and programs that are good matches. Most of my students work with me for two to four years; during that time, I would also advise them on course selections, activities, and internships. For some international students, I would also go with the families on campus visits. I have also been an admissions interviewer for my alma mater for over 20 years.

ISEE

I have had over 10 years of experience designing and leading school programs to help students gain admissions to exam schools and independent schools. My teaching experience in ISEE and SSAT includes both private one-on-one lessons and group sessions in school settings.
