Greetings and Salutations!
I am an experienced Latin teacher who has taught all levels of Latin 1-AP in public, private and charter schools. I am familiar with all the major Latin textbooks as well as the National Latin Exam. I have successfully shepherded students through the A.P. Latin. None of my students have received less than a score of "3" on that exam. In addition to Latin, I have also taught English and history.
My methods include a large dollop of patience and humor applied with attention to the methods that help the individual the most. Everyone learns differently and no one system works for everyone. To aid memorization, I use games, cards, color-codes and even songs. I have led many regional workshops for foreign language teachers and even published one of my educational games with Bolchazy-Carducci. (It's called Mendax.) To help students improve grammar and writing, I try to remove the mystery from the process and show them a system that they can understand and use to consistently improve their writing. Greetings and Salutations!

My son was struggling a little in Latin III Honors program at school. The class moves very fast and is very in depth. Jocelyn was wonderful in helping my son understand the subject matter better and provided him with tricks for remembering various verb endings. She was also very accommodating on short notice to help him study for an upcoming test. She is punctual and very good with kids. Highly recommended, my son looks forward to meeting with her, and he has brought up his Latin by one letter grade so far.
our situation is fairly unique, Jocelyn understood what my daughter had to achieve and has ensured she reached her goal, she is now returning to a school in the UK having caught up on two years of missed Latin. Jocelyn has broken down Latin grammar into a logical and well organised system. She has helped my daughter learn a great deal over a very short period of time with understanding and motivation. We have had a very positive experience and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Jocelyn.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
