About Christine

I have been a teacher and school counselor in a public school system for over 18 years. I have worked with families and children since graduating from college in 1989 with my Masters degree in Education. In my positions with the schools, I have advocated for my students to receive the extra services they may need to be successful in school, as well as later in life.

Due to my love of reading and wanting to help children read, I became certified in the Orton-Gillingham Reading Program. I tutored students at The Worcester Dyslexia Learning Center for over one year and enjoy working with students who may need more help with reading and comprehending or just need to improve their reading skills. Reading is such a key to opening doors to the world!! Presently I am working as an independent tutor and have been tutoring using the Orton Gillingham for over 3 years. My experience is with students Grades K through 4.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have a bachelor's degree in social work and a master's degree in education. I presently am employed as a school counselor in a public school and work daily with children who are diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and their families. I conduct social skills and anger management groups on a weekly basis. Last year I began the Orton-Gillingham program and am presently tutoring two elementary students through the Learning Center.

Dyslexia

In March of 2013, I became certified in the Orton-Gillingham reading program which helps dyslexic children learn to read. For the past 3 years, I have been tutoring elementary school students. I have been a teacher and school counselor in a public school system for over 18 years. I have a Master's degree in education and have been tutoring students in reading since I received my certificate. I enjoy working with children and helping them to learn new strategies.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Masters of Education from Worcester State College and am certified to teach Pre-K to Grade 6. I taught Preschool in the WPS for 5 1/2 years and substitute taught in Grades K- 6, before becoming a School Counselor. I presently am a certified Orton-Gillingham Reading Specialist and have taught the program to students ages 5-10 years old for the last year and a half.

Phonics

I am qualified to tutor phonics because I have been certified in the Orton-Gillingham Program for almost 2 years. O.G. is a phonetically based program for children with dyslexia. Barbara Wilson based her Wilson program off of it. I have been tutoring students ages 5-10 years old privately that needed this type of phonics program. I play games that I have created with the children, that help them to identify phonemes; we repeat our letters and sounds every week, and I assist them in using strategies to decode words that we are learning. Phonics is used every time I tutor a child.
