About Rosemary

I have had over thirty years of experience as an elementary teacher. Throughout my teaching career that spans international schools in eight countries I have had the opportunity of teaching a diverse group of students in all core subjects. During this time I have developed exceptional communication skills and leadership skills enabling me to interact with a wide range of individuals. I have extensive teaching experience in the elementary grades as well as tutoring experience in reading, math, writing and ELL. I am passionate about helping students improve in all academic areas.

I have worked with many students with varying learning styles and I realize that everyone learns in different ways. It is important to identify the student's learning style quickly in order to help them the best way possible and providing them with different strategies to approach a problem.

The importance of attitude to the productivity of the tutoring session will help students to be more willing to learn and practice the concepts he/she is working on. When you are excited about helping the child to feel success the child will be more willing and excited about learning.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified elementary school teacher having received my BEd from the University of Toronto, Canada. I have over thirty years of experience at the elementary level and have taught grades k-5. For twenty five years I taught internationally and had the opportunity of working with students from many diverse backgrounds. During this time I also tutored children in English, math, writing, and reading. Helping children to succeed is my greatest desire.

Phonics

With over thirty years of teaching experience in the elementary grades, I am very qualified to teach phonics! Phonics is one of the primary building blocks of reading and without an understanding between the relationship between letter sounds reading cannot occur. What a joy it has been to watch children in the early grades learn to read, though for some the extra one on one tutoring is essential in order to give some children that added boost of confidence. I have a repertoire of activities that I have used and that have been successful to help children succeed in reading.
