As a professional writer with more than a dozen years of experience producing formal papers, technical grants, marketing tools, and success stories, I look forward to guiding you through the writing process, step by step. A good product requires a good process!
My approach is to increase your confidence as a writer by building your understanding of the writing process at a pace that meets the student where he/she is. Together, we will explore ideas, argument, structure, logic, syntax and grammar (grammar need not be scary!). I will work to identify each students individual learning style and tailor my sessions in a supportive manner, working with your strengths to help build organization within the writing process. We will tackle important concepts such as topic sentence, understanding your audience, listening for your voice, linking thoughts and making meaning out of information. I am a firm believer in revising in order to rethink - making the writing processes a learning experience.
I have a BA in Communications from Roger Williams University and MS in Public Affairs from the John W. McCormack Graduate School of Policy Studies at UMASS Boston. I have written policy papers, technical grants for leading Boston-area non-profit organizations and re-branded creative marketing materials. Additionally, for seven years through an education program (School-to-Career), I worked with hundreds of students helping to draft, edit, and complete college and scholarship essays. I have also published poetry in regional journals.
I am available to work with students and adults at all levels, from building elementary writing skills to college essays to graduate capstones. I look forward to helping you! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I played competitive baseball into my early 20's before an arm injury ended my playing days. I played college baseball at Roger Williams University along with summer ball in high level leagues including Yawkey League and the Cranberry League. I have remained a devoted student of the game, especially in the art of pitching, focusing on arm strength and proper mechanics (arm slot, leg drive, landing, glove side, etc.). Over the past few years I have volunteered as a youth coach in the town of Canton.
