Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have run a small business for several years and I feel I could help students with both the theory and practice of business. The how and why of forecasts and budgets. What needs to be done to market. How do you handle custumer support. What do sale people need to sell. How can you help your manufacturing to work more effectively. I can help with case studies and practical problems.

I spend 20+ years as a computer programmer working mainly in c and assembly languages. My experience includes both user and embedded applications. I have worked with a large number of industrial computer applications.

Chemical Engineering

I have been tutoring chemistry for 10 years. I have degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering from MIT and understand the ideas of thermodynamics and other parts of fluid activity.

For a period of time I played both in school and at a club. I have read Bobby Fischer's book on chess endings. I have a few books on the subject and one of the chess playing games. I would be happy to try and help.

Civil Engineering

My undergraduate major was ocean engineering which involved structures for the ocean. This included much of the aspects of civil engineering such as strength of materials and structures. The materials are the same, just used in different locations

Computer Engineering

I worked as a computer programmer in a large number of different roles. I wrote computer programs for personal computers, I worked with data bases, and I did communication between devices. My experience also included working on computer networking, and on real time computer systems used to control industrial systems.

Differential Equations

I am an MIT graduate with degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering. I have worked as an engineer for the past 30 years. Most of the classes I took involved differential equations of one form or another.

Discrete Math

I would like to put my background of pratical math to use helping students. I hope that my broad experience with various aspects of math, and wide variety of applications. Eductaion, science, industry, and business would be helpful.

Much of my early work on computer systems involved personal computers. I understood how to use many of the aspects of Dos, and wrote a paper on how to use dos commands to do plotting.

Electrical Engineering

I have a degree from MIT in avionics. I have the highest amateur radio license and the second highest commercial license with all of the endorsements. My career largely involved industrial electronics.

Finite Math

I have been tutoring all types of mathematics at college and high school levels. My background is in engineering and I have two engineering degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering from MIT

I worked as a fortran programmer with an emphasis on statistical programming. One job involved maintaining fortran code on a remote system. I have 20+ years in the programming area.

General Computer

I have taught networking, and introduction to microsoft at a college level. My professional experience is with microprocessor based manufacturing systems. Part of my job has to be the instructior on these systems.

I was a system administrator on a unix system so I had to understand how all of the various parts of the system worked. I worked to develop and install a complex control system that was based on unix. I have worked with the operating system for a number of years.

I have worked with computer circuts and computer code that involves Boolean logic. I am familiar with logic and how to describe the math involved. I have taken tests that include this materialon logic and passed.

I have worked with Matlab in analyzing multiple sets of data for a project using a new measurement tool for the semiconductor industry. We used Matlab to format, analyze and present the data for this new device.

Mechanical Engineering

I have a degree from MIT in Ocean Systems Engineering. This course focused on making mechanical systems on or around the ocean. The course work was based on the mechanical engineering program with a slight emphasis on ships.

Networking (Computer)

I taught introduction to networking at a college level. At my previous job I was an instructor for a class in networking enabling PC chips.

I have played in many poker nights. As a spin off on my interest in card magic, I studied a number of books by an expert on poker, John Scarne. This knowledge is on betting and odds. I would be happy to share this information with students.

I have worked with SPSS with various students. The students have be in math and law enforcement, and the tutoring has covered a large number of topics.

I was the system administrator for a UNIX based system and did routine support including backups and adapting new software. I did software updates for a real-time UNIX system used in monitoring industrial processes. I worked on developing and testing a UNIX based system used for controlling an industrial measurement system.
