Bio

Hi, I'm Madison! I'm a freshman at MIT, and I'm extremely passionate about math and science! I love sharing that passion with others, and that's why I enjoy tutoring so much. I've been tutoring others since before I was even a freshman in high school, and in the past year especially I've taken on many students to help them with preparing for the ACT, SAT, and PSAT, and for their math and science classes. Since it wasn't too long ago that I was a high school student, I understand the student perspective of learning, and I know which lessons are helpful and which are not. I create interactive lessons with my students so we can establish a dialogue about the material and so my students can have plenty of practice with whatever sort of problem they're facing, and I have lots of resources and practice problems at my disposal that I'm willing to share. I like to remain flexible and tweak my lessons according to my students' feedback and needs, and most of all, I like to make learning as fun and approachable as possible!

I'm an experienced math tutor, and I've been working one-on-one with students for 5 years. I'm comfortable teaching anywhere from pre-algebra through calculus, and I have a lot of experience teaching ACT math especially. I scored a 36 on my ACT, so I know lots of tips and tricks to help students conquer that dreaded math portion! Since I'm a huge math nerd myself, I like to teach my students not just how to do something, but why that method works and how they can apply it to the real world. I'm also a firm believer in the power of practice problems, and I have lots of worksheets and individual problems that I'd be happy to work through with students. I've seen my method work on a number of students, including several high school students who came to me with failing math grades and ended the year with an A. Tutoring math is a passion of mine, and it's always a pleasure to see my students' grades or ACT scores rise, but most importantly to see their own passion for math come alive!

Science is my greatest passion in life, and I love to share my knowledge about it with others. I have experience tutoring in chemistry, biology, and physics at both the high school and Advanced Placement levels. Of course, I'm happy to tutor ACT science as well, and I have a lot of experience guiding students through the various types of problems seen on that sub-test. Many of my ACT science students have risen their subscores from below a 25 to above a 30! I also have worked with many middle and high school students to help them with preparing projects for science fairs, and I myself have been a researcher for over 4 years. I was a science fair nerd in high school, and I was invited to present at the International Science and Engineering Fair twice, where I won first place in my category. If your student needs any sort of advice or consultation for competitive science fairs, I'm your gal!

My schedule is very open and flexible this summer, and I respond quickly to messages. Feel free to contact me with any questions you might have, or to schedule a lesson!

Helping my son

Algebra II math senior high school level, very nice and patient good tutor. Was prepared for our meeting and was on time, will schedule another session. Best part is that my son is looking forward to learning more on a subject he struggles with.

First Lesson for college test Prep

My son reports it was Fun! I don’t know how you get that response after test prep - but I’ll take it as a good sign. He found Madison helpful and engaging. He hopes to gain new test taking strategies to use in his next set of tests this fall.
