Hello!
When searching for a tutor, it's important to find the right match for you. My style emphasizes critical thinking, life skills and organized problem solving. My students learn to understand the details of the subject material, and to think broadly about the big picture concepts. They learn to be dedicated, responsible, and well-spoken critical thinkers with strong study skills. As a result, they achieve good grades, high test scores, and strong college applications.

Recently, a student achieved a 100% on her math test - she was originally making Cs due to both careless errors and confusion about which concepts to apply when. Her attention to detail and problem solving ability have skyrocketed since we first met two months ago.

Another student called me in for help after failing her physics test, and turned it around to get an 86 on the next test and a 95 on the final.

"Stephanie has been a fantastic physics tutor for my high schooler. I would hire her again in a heartbeat."

"Meeting with my tutor twice a week raises my confidence, mental well-being, and GPA."

I've included more details about my qualifications below, so that you can make an educated decision when choosing a tutor. Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions you might have about my experience.

* B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT
* 10 years tutoring experience (private students, group classes, summer camps, and online)
* 3 years teaching abroad (India, China, UK)

During a two week life skills summer camp, my students transformed from shy, solo workers, unsure of their work, into confident team players, proud and happy to speak at the front of the room.
I love to teach for students like these. Teaching communication, study skills, and teamwork is a joy.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile and understand my approach and style. I hope you can find the tutor who is the best match for you.

Theater

I studied physical theatre full-time during a one year course in the UK. My two years working as a professional circus performer incorporated this physical theatre and drama experience to engage the audience and tell a story on stage. Of course, stage fright and nerves are no stranger to me, and I learned many ways to quickly solve problems that arise during a performance.

Project Management,

Project Management

Truly, I am a project manager at heart and have worked many years in the aviation and manufacturing industries as a project manager. Of course, I have studied the theory behind project management both on my own and in courses as MIT. The reality is that I have been successfully managing projects for the past fourteen years, ranging from a six month engine build to a very-on-time thanksgiving dinner.
Public Speaking,

Public Speaking

I’ve spent hours on stage speaking or performing, and love teaching these skills to my students. I’ve taught public speaking modules in multiple high school and college leadership programs, and tutored students preparing for specific speeches. I love to watch students’ presentations improve drastically between the first lesson and big day. My years in Toastmasters have given me additional experience in both mentoring others and speaking myself. I was a circus performer for another 2 years — nerves are no stranger to me, and I learned many ways to quickly solve problems that arise onstage.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I've been teaching algebra as long as I can remember, first by working volunteer hours to tutor my peers throughout middle and high school, and privately since 2008. Specifically, I have developed curriculum for and taught summer math camps abroad. Throughout the years, I have become very familiar with the common and uncommon problems that students encounter, and can offer explanations to help them understand the material. My six years in math clubs, 790 Math SAT score, 5 on AP BC Calculus, and MIT education have ensured my mastery of these subjects. I also write custom practice problems and worksheets so students can benefit from additional assignments.
Physics,

Physics

Tutoring physics is fun, and my experience in robotics and designing jet engines allow me to engage students in the real-world applications of their physics homework. I frequently tutor students to score their best on the physics SAT 2. I also scored a 5 on AP Bio, AP Chem and AP Physics when I was in high school. At MIT, I majored in mechanical engineering, thus reinforcing and expanding mechanics knowledge, as well as taking extra physics classes in E&M and waves.

I achieved acceptance to MIT, Caltech, CMU, Harvey Mudd, UC Berkeley and more universities while applying to colleges myself. During my year of teaching in China, I mentored ~100 students for acceptance into US colleges. I've been hired to speak to an audience >1,000 people about how to prepare for acceptance to MIT-level universities.
