I am an Organic Chemist focusing on Synthetic Organic and Medicinal Chemistry. I earned an M.S. in Organic Chemistry at Moscow State University, and in 2005, I matriculated into the graduate program at the University of Denver, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. After I earned a Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry and Photo-Chemistry, I worked as a post-doctoral fellow at The Scripps Research Institute and Georgia Institute of Technology. Currently I am a Scientist at a local biopharmaceutical company.
Even though I have more than 10 years of experience in Synthetic Organic Chemistry and, in particular, in Organic Photo-Chemistry, Physical Organic Chemistry, Methodology Development, Medicinal Chemistry, Fluorine Chemistry, Synthesis of Heterocyclic compounds and Total Synthesis, I have a strong passion for teaching.
During my graduate school I actively participated in being a TA for various organic chemistry classes: CHEM 2461, 2462, 2463. My primary responsibility was to grade laboratory reports and proctor exams. I volunteered to be a research advisor for several students in Frontier Chemistry class (CHEM 3500) and was chosen by my supervisor as a teaching assistant for Medicinal Chemistry class (CHEM 3703). During the 5 years at the University of Denver I was also a tutor of Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical, Analytical and Green Chemistry classes. As a post-doctoral fellow I mentored many graduate and undergraduate students and at my current company I volunteer to supervise several interns over the summer.
I am ambitious, goal-oriented, and I know what it takes to be successful. Moreover, I believe that my publication record demonstrates my drive and ability. I am confident that my background, diverse experience in academia and industry, and a passion for teaching and working with students would make me a valuable addition to WyzAnt tutoring pool. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry and 4+ years of post-doctoral experience in Total Synthesis and Medicinal Chemistry. I enjoyed tutoring in college, was a TA for several years in graduate school and continued teaching students during two of my post-docs and while being a Scientist III at a local biotech company in Boston. I am a very visual learner myself and often use visual aids such as: charts, tables, schemes and info-graphics.
I am a native speaker of the Russian language. I was born in Moscow and went to school and college there. While studying English as a second language I took several courses "Russian as a second language for English native speakers". It substantially helped me to bridge two languages together and understand how the grammar and vocabulary of both languages are connected. In Denver I tutored Russian and helped several students to excel in writing and improve their speaking skills.
