About Nova

I have a passion for helping children and young adults learn and grow as thinkers, innovators, and intellectuals. I specialize in tutoring Math, English, and Reading for standardized tests, including the ACT and SAT, as well as tutoring for all math topics from Pre-Algebra to AP Calculus BC. With several years of tutoring experience, I have volunteered as a English tutor for underprivileged first through third grade students for the past few years. In addition, I was a math tutor at Manierre Elementary School for third graders for one year and served as a fifth-grade math tutor at Salazar Elementary School for another year. Finally, I also spent several months tutoring English in China.

As a tutor, I hope to make sure the student is aware of his or her individual areas of growth within a certain subject and keep them challenged. More importantly, I hope to ignite and nurture that passion for learning and spirit for overcoming challenges in all of my students.

I have excelled in my high school math classes as well as in my elementary school math classes. I have earned top marks on the ACT Math test and a perfect score on both the SAT Math Test and SAT Math II Subject Test Exam. In addition, I earned the honor of AP Scholar with Distinction due to my outstanding scores on my 11 AP Exams, including a 5 on the AP Calculus BC Exam.

On weekdays, I am generally available for tutoring from 2pm to 9pm. During the weekends, I am generally available from 8am to 9pm.

I am excited to help you on your learning journey!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

With several years of tutoring experience with Kindergarten through 6th grade students, I have volunteered as a English tutor for underprivileged first through third grade students for the past few years. In addition, I was a math tutor at Manierre Elementary School for third graders for one year and served as a fifth-grade math tutor at Salazar Elementary School for another year. Finally, I also spent several months tutoring English to fifth graders in China.

I know that Kindergarten through 6th Grade students often need extra patience and motivation, and I am excited to incorporate my patient and caring attitude and "divide and conquer" teaching methods to help these students learn. Also, I hope to incorporate unique methods of tutoring, with possible chants and stories, to keep the students interested.

Piano

I’ve been playing piano for twelve years as a solo and duet pianist and have won numerous awards at piano competitions. Some recent accomplishments include 3rd Place at the 2015 International Piano and Strings Competition and 3rd Place at 2nd Place at MTNA East Central Division Senior Piano Duet Competition. In addition, I was recently invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York and have served as a piano tutor for several years.

Study Skills

I have always been an organized and disciplined student and have excelled throughout elementary and high school with a 3.96 GPA. My study skills are very effective and are applied to each and every class that I take, earning me high marks on my exams. I've developed strong time management and study skills that I would love to share with other people. I make sure to build blocks of studying time each day in order to maximize the efficiency of learning and understanding the material as well as utilizing organizational tactics, such as an agenda, and setting targeted goals.

knowledgeable and patient tutor

Nova worked on first grade math with my 6 year old son. Kids love her and she has a very nice teaching style with them. A wonderful positive attitude and she connects well! She was able to be very productive and patient in and online session with my somewhat hyper little guy!
