About Ellie

I have taught ESL for 15 years and worked with a broad range of students including young adults preparing for University entry and mid-career professionals. As my formal academic training is in both biological sciences and the humanities I am analytical in my approach and am able to enrich my lessons with materials from many subjects.

My methods which focus on honing pronunciation and oral comprehension and production have proven to be highly efficient and enhance student's learning beyond the classroom.

I love teaching ESL as I have lived in many countries and enjoy the cross-cultural enrichment that comes with this work. I am particularly interested in cultural psychology and how our cultures shape the way we envision and relate to our world. My work overseas has meant I too have been a language student and understand the process of acquiring a second or third language. My addition interests include world affairs, the arts, travel and nature. You will find our work together dynamic and highly engaging. I look forward to meeting you and getting started.

My own training in math and statistics included the role of teaching at the graduate level. I have also designed curriculum for young elementary students.

I have 15 years of experience and a proven highly effective approach.

I'm an experienced K-6 teacher with Massachusetts Teaching Certification.

Don't hesitate to contact me with questions and to set up our first meeting!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
