About Steve

I had my first tutoring job as a high school student, when I was hired by one of my teachers to work with his son. I graduated with Honors from Harvard College, and got my first formal teaching job at Colorado Academy, near Denver, CO. I started a filmmaking program there, taught English and French, coached the track team, and was the faculty advisor to the Photography Club. After two years, I took a similar job at Phillips Academy, in Andover, MA, where I worked for six years, teaching English and Filmmaking, coaching, and teaching early video technology to both students and faculty. I have taught in a wide variety of settings, from Third Grade on the Hopi Indian Reservation in Arizona, to inner-city adults and youth in Dorchester, to college undergraduates at Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

I have also had a successful career in television and video production, producing, directing, shooting and editing a number of award-winning programs. I am currently editing a series of health-related videos for the Boston Public Schools, while producing and editing a documentary with the Adaptive Dance Program at the Boston Ballet.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Video Production

I have taught video at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and at Cambridge Community Television. I am a video producer, director, shooter and editor, and worked in each of those capacities on award-winning television programs for cable and broadcast outlets. I am currently completing a series of health-related videos for the Boston Public Schools and a documentary on the Adaptive Dance Program at Boston Ballet.
