About Suzanne

Hello students and parents! I grew up in the suburbs West of Boston and I know how challenging and exciting it is to navigate the landscape of independent schools, public schools, and higher education in this area. Although I am an experienced faculty member at a local university, I consistently work with individual students of all ages as well. Tutorials give me the opportunity to help students craft a completely individualized course of study that reflects their personal goals and preferences. For students, tutorials offer an invaluable supplement to "one size fits all" education, and, indeed, a means of continuing one's education well into adulthood.

I have worked with CEOs on corporate writing projects as well as high school students on test prep. I frequently help advanced students and professional writers to shape book manuscripts and dissertations. I enjoy working with people of all ages in pursuing their educational and professional goals.

I have a PhD in English, a Masters in World Religions, and multiple university teaching awards. I am extensively published in peer-reviewed publications.

If your goals pertain to writing in any discipline, or to study within the Humanities, please contact me to discuss your needs. I am based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and all tutorial meetings are held in Harvard Square.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I studied Hebrew Bible and New Testament at Harvard Divinity School in the course of obtaining my masters degree there. I have advised a senior thesis dealing with biblical themes; published an encyclopedia entry on the use of the bible in the work of a seventeenth-century poet, and published a scholarly article on the same topic.

Classics

I studied classical Greek and Roman philosophy while obtaining my masters degree. I have published a review essay on all of the Platonic dialogues in a political science journal. I have given a talk on Seneca to the Philosophy and Literature colloquium at my university. I use the works of Aristotle and Plato frequently in my research and teaching.

Political Science

I studied political science (primarily with respect to the history of political thought) while obtaining my masters degree. I have published in peer-reviewed journals of political philosophy and political science. I frequently use texts from the history of political thought in courses that I teach to undergraduates.

Religion

I hold a masters degree in World religions. I have published in the top journal of religious studies in the world as well as Harvard Theological Review. Many of the course I teach to undergraduates concern religious history.

SAT Writing

I have tutored many students in SAT writing. Additionally, I have taught writing at the undergraduate level. I have also tutored graduate students in writing for the past nine years.
