About Laura

Hi! I’m Laura, and I have been tutoring for 13 years. I’ve completed a master’s degree in English Language and Literature and am finishing my PhD. Along the way, I have worked with many students at the undergraduate and graduate levels on their essays, papers, articles, and reports, helping them develop as writers and achieve their potential.

My teaching approach centers on respect and collaboration. My passion and dedication have been reflected in my students’ feedback: they consistently note my engagement with and respect for students and their ideas and my ability to foster critical thought. Writing can be an anxiety-inducing process, and I frequently work with students to practice different strategies to help them get "unstuck."

I have special interest and experience in working with students who are learning English, particularly students whose first language is Chinese. I speak some Mandarin and am familiar with the issues (both sentence- and assignment-level) that come up when native Chinese speakers learn and practice college-level academic writing in English.

Regardless of whether English is your first language, I would love to work with you on your admissions essays, school assignments, and anything else you are writing! We can start at any stage of the writing process: brainstorming; outlining; developing ideas and arguments. I can also provide help with grammar and proofreading.

Please don’t hesitate to send me a message! I am happy to arrange a free fifteen-minute consultation to discuss your needs.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
