About Taylor

Hi there!

My name is Taylor and I am a Sophomore at Brown University. I have tutored through Wyzant for a year and have 5 years experience as a peer tutor at my charter school. With experience in many classes ranging from calculus to US history & government to physics, I am ready to fill your needs. Over my high school career, I have taken and self-studied for 11 AP tests, the SAT, PSAT, and AIMs tests, so I can help with any standardized testing needs!

Over my years as a peer tutor, I have found that every student is unique and will bring their own perspective and needs to the table. As a result, I have found that in order to be effective and time-conscious, keeping the discussion on the subject matter is a must! Before we start, I will briefly discuss the overall tutoring objectives and time allowances of a student in order to provide the best tutoring I can. Upon arrival, we will review the course material together and find where the gaps in the learning are and what difficulties stand in the way. We will cover whatever material the student would like, anywhere from textbooks, class handouts, even to lecture notes. If my student's confusion stems from a misunderstanding with an earlier lesson, I will definitely take the time to review. Our foundation is everything so it is important for the student's to have a strong background in the subject in order to be prepared for the next lesson. In the end, I will be helping my students from start to finish; I will diagnose and fix any previous misunderstanding, explain current topics and teach them effective study habits so they are prepared for any future concepts.

I look forward to working with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Physics

Achieved a 5 on AP Physics B and received an A in the calculus-based Physics course at Brown University.

Study Skills

I have been a peer tutor at my high school for 5 years and helped countless middle schoolers learn how to study for their tests and quizzes. As a student myself, attending Brown in the fall, who has experienced Ochem, physics, AP Literature, to Latin, I have developed my own set of study skills and methods which prove very reliable. Depending on the topic, one can take practice tests, review lessons, write notecards, take notes, or reread the material. Everyone is different, but I can help each individual find what works best for them.
