About Bill

I have extensive tutoring experience in Economics as well as significant experience teaching Math and Finance. Although I tend to concentrate in those subjects, my students often request help in other subjects they are taking, and I'm usually happy to help if I have the time. Some of the more common subjects I help with during these extra sessions are Excel, Access, Statistics, Programming, and general business courses. I've also passed all three CFA exams (currently a charter candidate) and would be happy to help with your level I, II, and III exam prep.

I started tutoring my peers during high school, and continued doing so once I entered college. During my college experience I tutored for the UW Economic Student Association, individuals from the general student body, students in my dorm, and for the UW Athletic Department, averaging around 20-30 students per semester. I love teaching, so when I finished my degree, I continued my tutoring. I like to tailor my teaching to an individual student's needs, and change examples, teaching styles, and methods to suit.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

CFA

I am currently a level III CFA candidate. I've passed both the level I and level II exams. In addition to having tutored much of the exam material as it's covered in a formal school setting, I've also helped multiple colleagues study for their exams.

Economics

I have an extensive background tutoring Economics. I worked for the Athletic Department of a Big Ten school while I attended University, tutoring for Econ and Finance courses almost exclusively for between 10-50 hours a week. Post graduation, I've been working as a financial analyst, though I continue to tutor on the side. I am also a level III CFA candidate.

Finance

I have 3 years of experience as a finance consultant, working on valuation of litigation damages. I've also tutored finance courses on and off over the last ten years, with 100's of hours of experience tutoring finance courses, and thousands of hours teaching Econ.

Microsoft Excel

I have extensive familiarity with Excel, both in academic and industry settings, and over a decade of power user experience. I've even worked with a some of the individuals involved in the development process for the software itself (and was even able to show them a thing or two in the process). My familiarity with Excel includes basic formula construction, lookups, pivot tables, array formulas, macro recording, macro/VBA coding, custom functions, charting/graphing, statistical analysis (histograms, correlations, regression, etc.), solver/goal seek, Monte Carlo simulations, data downloading, automated data retrieval and analysis, and many other functions/uses (just ask if you have something specific you need help with). Basically, if you want it done in Excel, I can probably help you do it.

Visual Basic

I've done an extensive amount of programming in VBA in Excel, both for personal usage, as well as small business needs. The majority of the programs are designed for things such as automatic data downloading, daily analytics tasks, Monte Carlo simulations, and similar analytical needs. I've helped individuals learn everything from how to use the basic macro recording, setting up their own custom functions, and setting up their own analytics programs.

Extremely analytical approach to diving deep into data — Bill was a tremendous help for me as we completed a data analysis project. His approach is very analytical and allowed for us to tackle a complex analysis from every possible angle. I strongly recommend Bill for those in need of help with financial/data analysis projects.
