Harvard University (History and Science)
I have taught Latin at the British School of Boston, the Uphams Corner Charter School, the MIT AP preparation program and the Boston and Cambridge Centers for Adult Education. I have over twelve years' experience tutoring Latin and Greek and have substituted in the Cambridge Public Schools at all levels and subjects for seventeen years. I received my Bachelors from Harvard University in the History of Science Department, where I specialized in the history of logic in Greece, India and China. I think that it is very important for a student to know why an adult would study Latin, so I try to give every student an idea of the lasting sense of value that can be gained from this subject.

We have used Christopher as a Latin tutor for my daughter entering Boston Latin in the fall to give her a head start. He has been excellent to work with, very flexible and accommodating and most of all a genuinely good educator. He goes at the student's pace making sure they have a good understanding of the concepts before moving on. He also, on his own time, researches and finds worksheets to drill concepts that require a bit more attention. I would highly recommend Christopher.
Christopher offered a well thought out and organized intro to Latin. My son appreciated his patience and solid understanding of the subject. Great lesson for my son.
Chris R has had an astounding effect upon my 15 year old son over the past six months. In addition to making Latin more comprehensible, his tutoring has changed my son's attitude toward studying the language . Formerly, my son drudgingly completed the required work each day. Now he enjoys the challenge of studying Latin (which was the original reason why he decided to take the class). As a result, my son has elected to take a third year of Latin. As a bonus, Chris has also stimulated my son's budding interest in linguistics.
Needless to say, we will use Chris's services again next year.
We reviewed declensions, conjugations, and basic vocabulary. He was very prepared to teach me at any level because he didn't know going into it the exact level that I was at, and neither did I. It is obvious that he had a vast knowledge of Latin and has taught it many times. He is very good, and a nice guy.
Christopher taught vocabularies, verbs and constantly teaches techniques to do well. Also gave list of vocabularies to learn. Very patient and extremely responsible and reliable. Thanks
Christopher was very patient with my shy daughter giving her positive reinforcement to ease her discomfort. It was a very good first experience for her and we have high hopes for what she can achieve with Christopher's help.
Chris is a true gem. He is sincerely committed to getting the very best out of a student and has the experience and patience necessary to manage the ups and downs of the high school experience. For more than 2 years, we had a very positive experience with Chris including a substantial rise in grades. Chris takes the time to let the parent know how the lesson went, what could be worked on in order to do better, and is extraordinarily supportive of the student. He is encouraging, but rigorous, and at least in our experience, produced results well beyond our expectations. I recommend him without reservation to parents and students looking for Latin tutoring talent.
Chris did everything I wanted and more. He is very efficient and he made things very clear for me. I am so pleased.
Chris has been very patient with my son. We have a set agenda to get through over the summer and I am confident that he will keep my son on track to do well. Glad I found Chris!
I was very lucky to find Christopher as a tutor to help launch me on my way to learning Latin. He is very knowledgeable about his subject, has a lot of experience as a tutor, and his encouragement was important to me as a beginning student in this subject. He has also shared a number of important resources, both online as well as texts. He was very flexible about scheduling as well, which was much appreciated. I highly recommend him as a tutor.
My fourteen year old is always so pleased when his lessons are over. The sense of accomplishment he feels is priceless. Thank you Chris for helping my son feel confident. You have helped him to achieve his goal for Latin an A on his midterm!!! YEAH!
We were very pleased with our first meeting. My daughter really thought he was helpful and patient. We are looking forward to having success in Latin. Chris was able to make a good assessment of my daughter's strengths and we believe he will be very instrumental in helping her gain more confidence thus better grades.
Chris worked with our 8th grade son on Latin, and our son is not easy. Chris was incredibly patient and really willing to stick it out with him. We highly recommend him!
Chris has been coming to our home 1-2 times a week for the past several weeks. He is prompt and dependable. He demonstrates a strong knowledge base. Most of all, he has been able to instill some confidence in my son. I think my son now feels that he can and will succeed in Latin. School grades are improving as well. Chris is incredibly patient and understanding. I would highly recommend him as a tutor.
Christopher was prompt, professional, and excellent in tutoring my son who is a freshman in High School. I can't recommend him enough.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
