About Alex

I tutor students for the MCAT, in all math courses or tests involving math, and also teach students to play the guitar. I have significant experience in all areas, and am very adaptable to different learning styles. I have been tutoring for over 10 years and have a very clear, easy to understand method of teaching. I recently took the MCAT and am en route to medical school.

I trained in jazz guitar at Washington University in St. Louis for 4 years via formal guitar lessons, playing in a jazz combo with the Wash U music department chair, and have performed in various other settings. In addition, I have been giving guitar lessons for over 5 years. I can teach students in Jazz, Rock, or other similar styles and am comfortable reading sheet music or teaching in TABs.

I am happy to meet students at a local cafe or public location for tutoring or at their home. I typically meet with students for 2 hours at a time, though I am happy to meet for longer. I am available in the evenings and anytime on the weekends. If those times don't work for you, I am happy to discuss other options.

I have taken math courses up through calculus and differential equations, and scored an 800 on the Math SAT II.

I scored in the 95th percentile on the MCAT (100th percentile on chem/phys) and have taken all of the prerequisite science courses in the past few years. I am very comfortable explaining science in everyday terms, and have gotten much positive feedback from previous students.

I completed the Bryn Mawr Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program, arguably the best premedical postbac program in the country. Additionally, I took the MCAT and scored in the 95th percentile. I have been a tutor for over 10 years in academic subjects and standardized tests, including the SAT/ACT/MCAT.

Formally trained in jazz guitar, I have performed in various settings including restaurants, recitals, and parties. I have tutored students in jazz, rock, or pop. I am flexible and can teach written music, tab, or any other form the student prefers. Some experience playing bass as well.

Please don't hesitate to contact me to schedule an initial lesson or learn more. I will reply within 24 hours, and usually sooner.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
