About Xander

I am a nontraditional medical school applicant and a research coordinator in the Radiation Oncology Lab at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. I excelled at my premed coursework, which I completed in just one year, so I know how to master material quickly and deeply. I took the MCAT in July and received an incredible score of 527!

I was an English and Geoscience double major at Hamilton College, where I was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

After my postbac classes ended, I had only 7 weeks to study for the MCAT, and for four of those I decided to take a biochem course! With such little time to prepare, I developed a framework for maximizing my efforts. By focusing on active recall and the skill of MCAT questions, I was able to receive an extremely high score (message me for details), despite the massive time crunch. My approach will help you figure out the best way to approach studying for this test, learn critical MCAT test-taking skills, and prevent burnout. Because the test covers so much material, it can be daunting to even start studying. One of the hardest parts of studying for the MCAT is remembering that you do not need to memorize everything. To score above 520 you don't need to know everything, but you do need to be able to understand anything that the test throws at you! You need a strong foundation and then the right framework to build off of that. This test rewards thinking far more than knowing, so I will personally tailor a plan for you that will keep you focused on only the essentials to get your best score!

You can crush the MCAT! Let me show you how!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

MCAT

I had just seven weeks to study for the MCAT, and I was taking an accelerated biochemistry course for a portion of that time. I took the MCAT in July, 2016, receiving a 527 (100th percentile).
