About Tim

I’m an experienced General Chemistry tutor who has helped dozens of students tackle the most difficult of chemistry concepts for over 10 years. I'm passionate about teaching and I aspire to help each of my students understand and enjoy studying chemistry!

My teaching experience began as a peer tutor for students taking undergraduate General Chemistry at Gettysburg College. In addition to one-on-one peer tutoring I was employed by The Princeton Review as a General Chemistry course instructor, where I taught a review course for students taking the MCAT. I've been a lab teaching assistant for multiple semesters of general chemistry, organic chemistry, and introductory biology. Since I enjoyed my chemistry education so much, I now focus my efforts exclusively on helping students with General Chemistry.

In addition to teaching I'm passionate about scientific research - I earned my Ph.D. in biochemistry studying cardiovascular disease, and I continue to conduct research in the lab!

My goal is to provide students with the background to understand chemistry and the confidence to solve any problem on their own. My approach to teaching chemistry is to begin with a short lesson on the fundamentals of the topic, and then use a problem set to illustrate the concepts. I typically prepare problem sets for each lesson, and will be happy to work with you to provide an individualized approach - both for students having difficulty with the fundamentals or for those looking to excel up an upcoming exam.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chemistry

I have been a long term chemistry tutor for students on the high school, undergraduate, and post-bachelor's level.

My chemistry education began in high school with an honors chemistry course followed by an AP chemistry course. In college I was a biochemistry/molecular biology major where a large focus of my coursework was on general and organic chemistry with associated lab work. Since then I have been a chemistry tutor primarily for undergraduate students.

My approach is simple - after reviewing the theoretical concepts for a chapter, I show students the best way to solve practice problems. Following that I have the students solve problems on their own and throughout the process chime in to ensure they are focusing on the right way to solve the problem.

I believe that with the right information and a patient tutor, any student can successfully learn chemistry.

Great chemistry tutor

We hired Tim to help our high school son with some difficult concepts in AP Chemistry. Tim came well prepared with materials and exercises, was patient and helpful in his explanations. The tutoring session was very much worth it.
