In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught English to elementary, middle school and high school deaf students for over 25 years. This entails teaching the basics of reading and writing English, with an emphasis on grammar and proper language usage.
I have taught English to elementary, middle school and high school deaf students for over 25 years. For profoundly deaf students who have not had aural input of English growing up, some people say that English is NOT their mother tongue, NOT their NATURAL language. Therefore, it is the Teacher of the Deaf's responsibility to teach the basics of reading and writing English, grammar and proper language usage.
I can read, speak and write Hebrew fluently. I have lived in Israel and speak Hebrew frequently in America.
I was a teacher of deaf children of all ages for over 25 years in public schools and residential programs for deaf students. Throughout my career, I taught classes using sign language, in conjunction with speech or not. I attended courses in A.S.L. at Northeastern University, the Mass. State Association for the Deaf, and at Gallaudet University in Washington. I taught Sign Language at the Brookline Adult Education Program and privately.
I taught deaf children of all ages/grades for over 25 years. While some of the educational programs I taught in did NOT emphasize speech improvement, some did. In the latter, I worked with students on a 1:1 basis on articulation, speech clarity and improvement. I believe I could help with accent reduction and clearer articulation with international students.
