About Miles

Bio

I received my undergraduate degree in math and cello performance from Indiana University. During my undergraduate years, I received national awards (the Goldwater scholarship, a top 25 finish in the Putnam exam), and high recognition from the IU math department (the Ciprian Foias Prize, the Marie S. Wilcox scholarship). In high school, I scored a 2400 on the SAT, and earned a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam from self study. I also received a 5 on the AP Statistics exam.

I have teaching experience, as well. I've taught at a few summer high school math camps, I have been a coach for the Georgia state math team for a few years now, and I was a grader for the IU math department. And I've been teaching and assistant-teaching math online for more than five years. I'm used to people of many levels, from people struggling with prealgebra to people who do well at national and international math competition. I'm comfortable with just about any level of math from middle school through advanced undergraduate courses. The level is not important---I'm just here to help you learn!

I'm also available to tutor music theory. My grades in my first two semesters of the IU theory sequence were both A+; I earned A's in subsequent honors theory courses. I'd be happy to tutor through the first year of undergraduate music theory.

I'm willing to tutor groups.

Finite Math

I have already tutored several students in finite math. In fact, some of my first tutoring experiences were helping friends through their finite math courses at Indiana University. The parents of one of these friends sent me a check at the end of the semester because they were so pleased with how I'd helped their daughter, although I had not expected any payment for helping her. Much of the finite math curriculum consists of material that I needed to learn to excel at the competitions I took in high school, and I have taught online courses to prepare for these same competitions.
