About Rachael

I am a patient, intelligent individual who has tutored adults and teenagers. I have three daughters, ages 14-24. I lived in Israel for 10 years and I practiced law there. I had the chance to visit this past summer and I fell in love again with Jerusalem. I currently teach students in grades 8-11 at a Hebrew high school program, in subjects including Medical Ethics, The Jewish Cultures of Israel, and social justice. I am fluent in Hebrew.

I have experience with Asperger's and other special needs.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Hebrew

I am qualified to teach Hebrew because I lived in Israel for many years. I passed a very high level Hebrew exam and I practiced law there, in private practice and in several government positions. All of my work was in Hebrew; I taught myself enough Hebrew to pass the Israel bar exam and to work at a professional level.

My experience in tutoring in Hebrew is mainly in helping my youngest child learn to read, write, and speak.

Writing

I assisted a master's candidate with her school papers. I provided editing and suggestions on ways in which to improve her writing.
