About Adrienne

Want to pick the flute back up after having put it down for a few years? Are you a college student who wants to continue to cultivate your creative side? Does your son or daughter have an interest in flute (as they should, because it's awesome)?

I would love the opportunity to speak to you. Whatever your goals are, from middle school band, to college music elective to music for fun and enjoyment, all students are welcome.

I am a graduate of the Longy School of Music in Cambridge where I received my Masters of Music in Flute Performance. I earned my undergraduate degree at Ithaca College where I earned a dual Degree in Flute Performance and Jazz Studies on Piano. I have experience as a private flute teacher, general music teacher, chamber music coach as well as a theory tutor. My personal teaching style is to teach toward the individual strengths of each student. My goal is to cultivate the best musician I can with good technique and a discriminate ear. Above all, I want my students to have fun! Music is to be enjoyed, loved, and experienced to be appreciated. I believe my students can say that the learning process for them involved that if not anything else.

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ear Training

In addition to this licensure, I have taught Ear Training and music appreciation in a classroom and private teaching setting in addition to having passed the Praxis Exams in Music and General Ed required to be certified in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

Flute

I have taught Privately for 7 years. I stated teaching during my undergrad in Delaware under Joan Sparks in her flute studio, The Flute Studio, in Wilmington, Delaware. I was a private teacher as well as accompanist and coach. I have experience working with beginners as well as the the more experienced. My job as your private instructor is to bridge all the possible avenues of understanding into a polished and knowledgeable player. This will allow for a flexibility in interpretation and style. My general goal for all of my students is for them to have a basic understanding of the skills I teach to be able to apply them in multiple musical situations. To achieve this goal, I offer lessons that encompasses sight reading skills, good sound and tone production, intonation, rhythm, and practice skills for purposes of retention. Beyond this, the student can work with me to decide what their goals are.

I teach all ages 7 and older and all levels. I accept all kinds of learners and believe in communication between the parent, student, and teacher to best adapt my teaching method to best suit the learning style and needs of the student. I also teach adults, because it is never too late to learn to play!

Kind and encouraging — My daughter really looks forward to her flute lessons with Adrienne, and in just a few sessions I can see a real improvement in her playing! Adrienne is a very conscientious teacher who is methodical and organized. She is firm but kind and encouraging at the same time, which is a great balance. I'm really glad we found her!! ...
