About Andrew

I earned my pizza money since middle school and throughout high school, college, and post-college working and volunteering as both a tutor in all kinds of academic subjects and as a private swimming lesson instructor. As such, I have experience working with people of all different kinds of learning styles, ages, and disabilities.

As a consulting actuary, my specialty is tutoring the preliminary actuarial examinations (1/P, 2/FM, 3/MFE, 4/C, and S). I have passed the first five examinations in the past two years all on the first attempt with scores ranging between 8 and 10 and have been tutoring each exam since its respective completion. I also have many years of experience tutoring various mathematical, statistical, and scientific subjects. I received my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience, so I feel I have a very well-rounded background and can be effective at teaching a broad spectrum of subjects.

My teaching style varies based on each student, but I strive for learning to be efficient while still remaining thoroughly effective. I believe in students learning at their own pace in the way that works best for them, but learning in a way that allows them to save time and retain the maximum amount of information. I have always loved taking exams personally and have learned countless tips and tricks aside from learning the actual exam material that could prove invaluable.

Actuarial Science:
Exam 1/P - Score 8 taken in March 2015
Exam 2/FM - Score 9 taken in August 2015
Exam 3/MFE - Score 8 taken in November 2015
Exam 4/C - Score 10 taken in February 2016
Exam S - Score 8 taken in May 2016

Other Math/Statistics Subjects:
My proven experience passing actuarial examinations aside, I have always loved mathematics and statistics and excelled throughout all of my academic career. I received an A average throughout school in these subjects, attended the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in high school, scored at the top of this rigorous academic school in various math competitions, and earned a minor in Mathematics and Statistics from Boston University in college. I have also tutored all kinds of math/stats subjects since middle school, ranging from Algebra 1 to Trigonometry to Multivariable Calculus and beyond.

If you are interested in learning with an efficient and effective approach, please feel free to contact me so we can have a discussion and figure out if I am the right fit for your needs! I look forward to hearing from you and speaking with you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I earned a 35 on the ACT Math section while in high school, and I only took the test one time. I have been working with students on ACT, SAT, and general test prep throughout college and post-college.

Actuarial Science

I received a minor in Mathematics and Statistics from Boston University, I have passed the first five actuarial examinations on the first try with very high scores in the last two years, and I have been tutoring various students in these examinations since their respective completions. I have also worked as a consulting actuary and have experience in the field.

Algebra 1

I have always had a passion for mathematics. I attended the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in high school and am currently an actuary (heavily uses mathematics for insurance companies). I tutored my way through middle school, high school, and college teaching a wide variety of mathematics and statistics.

I have always had a passion for mathematics. I attended the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in high school and am currently an actuary (heavily uses mathematics for insurance companies). I tutored my way through middle school, high school, and college teaching a wide variety of mathematics and statistics.

Logic

I have taken symbolic logic courses in middle school and received an A average. I have also used logic for computer programming courses in high school and college, also receiving A averages in these classes. I feel confident teaching and explaining symbolic logic concepts such as Modus Ponens, Modus Tollens, etc. as well as teaching the more general logic concepts like building complex arguments and breaking them down to make sense of them.

Statistics
