Hello and welcome to my page. I'm Catherine and I'm a Boston, MA and Paris, France based guitarist, composer and teacher. I am an active member of the Boston music community. I believe learning an instrument should be fun but at it's core it is all about practice, repetition, discipline--with a goal in mind (first performance, gig, writing a song or personal expression). I teach private/group lessons (all ages/levels). I work individually with each student assessing their skill level and tailor my sessions to fit their goals and interests. The guitar is a fantastic lifelong learning instrument for everyone. I'll provide you with the tools to build a solid foundation (exercises, theory, chord construction) as well as encourage you to explore your own creativity with the instrument. I love introducing the guitar to new students and watching them progress from beginner to intermediate to possibly performing in front of others (even if it's just your family).
My background includes being a professional musician who tours throughout Europe and locally in New England. My musical style combines elements of majestic psychedelia, hard rock, surf music, Middle Eastern music, and Parisian swing.
One of my compositions was featured in the History Channel's hit program, American Pickers (as well as other cable TV shows). My work has been featured on many radio programs including Dave Marsh's national radio program, Kick Out the Jams, on Sirius Satellite Radio. I was commissioned to compose the soundtrack to a few indie films. I was selected by Brian May of Queen to win his famed ‘Red Special’ guitar after performing a 2 minute guitar solo.
I want to share my more than 30 years of experience as a performer, teacher and composer, and help you -my students become proficient on the instrument that has allowed me to travel and perform all over the world.
Please contact me for lesson information. I look forward to hearing from you! Hello and welcome to my page. I'm Catherine and I'm a Boston, MA and Paris, France based guitarist, composer and teacher. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have composed music for several CD's (rock bands, extended bands that include strings, guitars, drums, bass, vocals). I've had several songs on cable television shows, independent movies, radio airplay with all my bands. One of my instrumental songs was nominated first round grammy for best rock instrumental.
I have studied privately with Bruce Bartlett (Berklee College of Music), Reeves Gabrels, and David Santoro (Hart School of Music, Hartford Connecticut). I've been teaching privately (as well as at local music stores) for over 15 years. I currently teach beginner guitar at a local community education center. Each student is an individual. I evaluate their level and proceed with lessons tailored to that student. I use a combination of theory, exercises, learning songs and encouraging creativity for the student.
I've been writing and performing songs for over 30 years. I've got several songs on cable TV (History Channel), independent films and 8 CD's to my writing credit.
