Do you hate something about school? In reality, students don't hate any subject. Often that emotion veils the truth -- that they hate the STRUGGLE that comes with learning. Often, when students struggle, they engage in a quiet negative dialogue with themselves. They receive a poor grade and conclude that they are not "smart" enough.
I believe this struggle can be overcome with the proper effort and attitude. After 20 years as a journalist in the private sector, I recently dedicated my life to teaching students how to succeed at the art of reading, writing, and arithmetic. My tutoring approach is to determining my student's level of understanding and build up from there. I assess my student's ability through questions and written assessments. Ultimately, I want my students to be comfortable and gain a better understanding of not just a subject, but themselves. All people face adversity. Based on years of experience, overcoming adversity comes naturally to me, and I know how to teach others to do so.
My education and experience includes a Master's Degree in Teaching from Simmons College as well as teaching a variety of subjects in grades 4-12 at a number of school districts, including Lincoln, Concord, Lexington, Bedford, and Dennis-Yarmouth. While my classroom teaching has primarily focused on mathematics (my favorite subject), I have also tutored students to become better readers and writers.
All the best,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
