I’m Rares! I graduated summa cum laude (highest Latin Honor) with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and a Bachelor of General Studies in Business and Life Sciences as well as a minor in Material Science and Engineering along with many other honors. I found that whenever a teacher taught a subject, he or she teaches it exactly as described by some lesson plan, creating a rigid and stifling environment. My best teachers were the ones that deviated from this and worked with students. This is primarily why I’m here. I love teaching but want to work directly with students in order to understand what works and what doesn’t work. A lot of teaching styles did not work for me and so I have been able to develop new methods and I think these can be invaluable to students. My pedagogy revolves around attacking problems and topics with students in a variety of different ways until we find the best method for that student. Then we drill down on that method in order to build confidence and practice. Finally, that student should be able to teach the same method to a peer as this signifies full mastery. It is through this concept of exploration, practice, and mastery that I believe anything can be taught and learning can be a rewarding process.

While in college I professionally tutored biology, biochemistry, chemistry, and english for 3 years. In high school I was President of my math team and regularly taught lessons on subjects ranging from algebra to set theory and even conics. Unprofessionally, I regularly helped my classmates with subjects they struggled in or did not feel a level of mastery. By pushing both my students and peers to prove knowledge by teaching the subject, they have all received As or Bs on whatever assignment they had, even when class averages were Fs. If you’re tired of everyone pushing the same recycled lesson plan on your and want a tailored approach where you can see yourself proving you know a subject, then feel free to contact me!
