Bio

I have always enjoyed teaching throughout my life. Whether it was leading a study group with my fellow students or teaching a class of undergraduates. My goal is to help teach you not just the subject material to pass a test, but to allow you to use what you learn about the subject and apply it novel situations throughout the rest of your life.

I am a graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor's of Science in Biochemistry (cum laude). In addition to my degree I also have 3 years of analytical laboratory experience in a research setting. I have taught a weekly course to undergraduates about glycobiology for over a year, and currently am a consultant for pharmaceutical companies for the past two years.

I feel that I have the perfect blend of academics and professional experience to help you succeed.

Proofreading

In my current role with my company I work extensively in Quality Assurance. As a result of this I am asked to review documents for small errors and make sure they are as directed as possible. I review on average 10-15 documents a week for major pharmaceutical companies and can use this experience to make any necessary corrections to student papers.

Smart, patient, and able to break concepts down into easy-to-understand pieces

My son is very interested in chemistry but just couldn't click with his teacher's very hands-off, self-guided teaching style. He was struggling and his grades reflected this. We started working with Michael and his grades immediately improved, as did his self confidence and passion for chemistry. I saw him go from angry and dejected when discussing chemistry to being excited to chat about the subject, super engaged with projects, and proud of his abilities. Michael is a great communicator who was flexible and patient, even making time to help out with extra tutoring before finals. We are very grateful to have had him this year and 100% recommend working with him.

Hands down the best!

Michael D. is a caring and hard working individual who is dedicated to helping his students be the best that they can be. During our sessions he makes sure my learning is his number one priority and I feel as though my success as a student is very important to him. He’s always more than willing to answer questions and often encourages them so I can fully understand concepts I have the most trouble with. Organic chemistry has posed as a great challenge for me and it’s always something I have struggled with, but Michael has helped to alleviate my anxieties and I have since maintained an excellent grade. He is a phenomenal teacher who is kind, patient and prepared and I am confident I will excel in this course because of him!

Well Prepared & Responsive

Michael arrived with notes to go over the really important content from the first 3 lectures of the course, which is over 300 slides in total! I was very impressed by this effort and corresponding work ethic. I have never worked with a tutor so prepared to teach; usually, tutors just answer questions, which is only helpful if you know the right questions to ask. Michael reviewed all the concepts from those three lectures and answered my questions honestly. He made notes to share materials as well as to follow up with answers to questions that could not be immediately solved. I could tell that he genuinely enjoys teaching and he is passionate about helping students understand the material. Professionally, he is a biochemist, but he would have made an amazing high school or college biochemistry instructor. I have already booked the next two appointments to continue tutoring with him.
