I love working with students and fostering not only an understanding of the subject material but also an inquisitive nature that asks "what next?" As a recent Masters of Public Health graduate with a concentration in Epidemiology & Biostatistics at Boston University, I am excited to help foster a sense of engagement and understanding for learners of all ages.

I have worked with children and young adults in a number of capacities. Most recently, I have worked as a tutor for the Student Success and Jobs program at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, MA tutoring biology, statistics, and SAT prep. This took the form of small group tutoring instruction. I am also passionate about helping all types of learners succeed in the classroom. As a peer academic coach at my undergraduate institution, I worked with peers individually to promote productive study skills, semester planning strategies, writing capacity, and work-life balance.

I also have worked at summer camps as a program director and counselor. As a camp counselor at an overnight camp in the Berkshires, I supervised twelve-year-olds as a cabin counselor and served as a science counselor. As a STEM program director, I taught five 50 min. periods a day to children aged seven to fifteen and designed multi-level introductory science projects. In my classroom, we explored the science of fossils, the basics of botany, modeled yeast respiration and more. As someone who loves to tackle "real world" scientific applications, I have always had a passion for finding pertinent and interesting examples that can bring a subject to life.

To give a little more background information about myself, I am a recent Masters of Public Health graduate in Boston, MA. I chose this field because it allows me to draw from multiple disciples, including biology, government, policy, health, and statistics. I strongly believe that public health approaches can improve the wellbeing of communities and help everyone achieve their dreams.

SAT Reading

As a graduate student, I am very familiar with the process of standardized testing. I scored above the 90th percentile on my SAT reading section and on the verbal GRE section. I also have experience breaking down the different elements of the test to make the material more approachable and easy to understand. I specialize in helping students understand not only the mechanics of the test, but also how to leverage their own strengths to increase their score. I currently work as a SAT tutor for the Student Success Program affiliated with Brigham & Women's Hospital and have coached students to increase scores 200+ points.

American History

As a public health student, I have completed many courses focused on American government systems and history. This has included courses in American government, civics, and policy. I have also completed coursework in comparative politics which allows me to engage with students on critical thinking topics such as: "how is American history unique?" and "in what ways has American History failed vulnerable groups?"

I also worked ten hours a week during the academic year in the Biology department greenhouse, learning about plant care and plant biology. As a science camp counselor, I frequently planned and executed science projects and lessons for kids of all ages. In my current graduate-level coursework in Public Health, I also integrate my biology knowledge to promote population health. Currently, I also work as a Biology tutor for the Student Success & Jobs program at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA.

First Mtg a hit!

Meeting with a tutor for the first time and online not knowing what to expect was nerve recking. But right away with Emma we felt comfortable and at ease. My daughter felt she got good feedback and a strong plan in place to help her reach her goal to help improve her SAT score. Emma was attentive, knowledgeable and gave some work for her to complete and then they will review together to pin point any weak areas and help to master them! Very thankful to have found her, so far, 1st meeting and great!

Tutor Review

At first I was very skeptical as I thought that tutoring over a screen would not work out, however, my daughter loved it she says that she was very nice and according to her she provides excellent tutoring, she focuses on what the student needs help on and she is very descriptive in providing this help.
