I love working with students and fostering not only an understanding of the subject material but also an inquisitive nature that asks "what next?" I have worked with children and young adults in a number of capacities. As a camp counselor at an overnight camp in the Berkshires, I supervised twelve-year-olds as a cabin counselor and served as a science counselor. As a science counselor, I taught five 50 min. periods a day to children aged seven to fifteen and designed multi-level introductory science projects. In my classroom, we explored the science of fossils, the basics of botany, modeled yeast respiration and more. As someone who loves to tackle "real world" scientific applications, I have always had a passion for finding pertinent and interesting examples that can bring a subject to life. In this way, students can learn on multiple levels and truly integrate information. This leads to both personal and academic success later in life. As part of the Bank for America student leader program, I also had an eight-week paid internship at the Boys and Girls Club of Providence where I implemented and directed my own curriculum focused on the "Hero's Journey" throughout children's literature and film. I also worked as a Sunday school teacher weekly for two years, working with 3rd and 4th-grade students in small groups. In this role, I developed skills in curriculum planning and team management while fostering a safe and creative atmosphere. Throughout the academic year, I volunteer with a mentoring and tutoring program for middle schoolers that tutors in reading and strives to instill the importance of leadership and academics. Lastly, I worked at my college as a peer academic coach. In this role, I worked with peers individually to promote productive study skills, semester planning strategies, writing capacity, and work-life balance--particularly for students with executive function disorders. This experience taught me the importance of providing engaging lessons that appeal to a wide range of learning strategies.

To give a little more background information about myself, I am currently pursuing a Masters of Public Health in Boston, MA. I chose this field because it allows me to draw from multiple disciples, including biology, government, policy, health, and statistics. I believe strongly that public health approaches can improve the wellbeing of communities and help everyone achieve their dreams. In addition to my work experience with children, I have held a number of research and internship experiences in public health.

SAT Reading

As a graduate student, I am very familiar with the process of standardized testing. I scored above the 90th percentile on my SAT reading section and on the verbal GRE section. I also have experience breaking down the different elements of the test to make the material more approachable and easy to understand. I specialize in helping students understand not only the mechanics of the test, but also how to leverage their own strengths to increase their score.

English reading and grammar

Emma is a great teacher and she is very organized. She catches a good point during the lesson and explains to her student and the students understand easily. In my perspective, she teaches and makes student want to learn more about grammar and other kinds of books.

Tutor Review

At first I was very skeptical as I thought that tutoring over a screen would not work out, however, my daughter loved it she says that she was very nice and according to her she provides excellent tutoring, she focuses on what the student needs help on and she is very descriptive in providing this help.
