About Anne

At Dartmouth College, I majored in biology and tutored my peers in biology classes. My specific strengths are molecular biology, physiology, and cell biology. I have also taken immunology and biochemistry, and feel confident in tutoring all of these subjects. I graduated from school with a 3.7 average GPA in all my sciences courses. I recently studied for the MCAT, so all subject areas are still fresh for me.

I would like to tutor because of my personal experience with tutors when I was younger. I grew up competitively ski racing, so I had to miss a lot of school. Thus, I worked with tutors to stay up to date on my studies. They formed the foundation of my education which I was able to build on in high school and in college. I would love to have the opportunity to give back and help other people out.

What I love about tutoring is that I get to relearn the subject material I am teaching to you! I enjoy biology, so dusting up on the specific subject of interest is always fun. I love to work with other people, and I like figuring out how to explain a subject in different ways. If my explanation isn't working for you, how can I make it better? What can I change to make it click?

While I was at Dartmouth, I led study group sessions and helped my classmates with the material. My style of tutoring for Biology involves both explanation, and quiz like questioning. I personally found that I do not retain information until I am tested on it, so I think quizzing is very important. When learning new things, there are several pathways that your brain will use to remember the information. I believe that implementing all pathways will increase your chance of remembering and understanding.

Thus, speaking about the subject and writing about the subject will solidify the new knowledge in your brain. When I quiz someone, I like to get the answer verbally. If your answer is solid, then I will not require that you write it down. However, if you seem unsure of your answer, or if you get it wrong, I will have you write down the correct answer (implementing another pathway). I will also note the subject area or question that you found difficult, and come back to it a little bit later in the lesson. By speaking and writing about biology, it engages you rather than just passively listening or thinking about it.

Please contact me with any questions that you might have! If you are studying something that I didn't list, chances are, I have had exposure to the material.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I am qualified to teach biology because I majored in Biology at Dartmouth College, and graduated with high honors based off of my molecular biology research. I took 12 classes ranging from intro to cell, genetics, and physiology, to upper level developmental and immunology classes.

I took physiology at Dartmouth College, and received an A in the course. I have had a lot of exposure to the subject matter through school, shadowing doctors, and labs. The lab that I took with my physiology class involved 8 different dissections ranging from brain, to kidney, to heart. Physiology is my favorite subject, and I loved tutoring my peers on the course at school. I took the class in the fall of 2015, so it is fresh in my mind still.
