About Osa

I am a Math/Science/Computer Science enthusiast, and even more, an education enthusiast. I used to be an individual who was not fond of math/science/STEM subjects, particularly because it was never presented to me in a way that was appealing. It wasn't until I was in high school, and had an unbelievable teacher, that I realized how much I loved and appreciated the subjects, and that I had never been taught in a way that made me personally gravitate toward the math/science fields.

Most importantly, what this has taught me is that knowing a subject matter and teaching a subject matter are two different skill sets which are often assumed to be overlapping, which isn't necessarily the case. Through working with different types of people with different learning strengths and learning styles, I have learned that not everyone learns, thinks or processes information the same. This means that it is important for a tutor to be able to identify the individual strengths and learning style of the individual being tutored and customize the content accordingly. My happiness does not lie in my strengths or my knowledge, but in transferring it to the individual being tutored, and knowing that their understanding and appreciation for the material is increasing.

I pride myself in knowing and understanding a wide variety of mathematics, sciences and computer science fields. Moreso, it is my personal commitment to make sure that the individual being tutored is learning adequately, and is happy with the process. I am very patient and very detailed, and try to make learning as easy and fun as possible. I have tutored students on many levels: I have tutored elementary and middle school students in different varieties of math and science, I tutored middle school and high school students in math, science and computer science classes, and have tutored college/university students in math, science, and computer science classes. I have also spent a little time tutoring high school and middle school students with standardized tests, such as the PSAT, SAT, ACT and the TEAS tests.

Ultimately, I am here to serve individuals with the need or interest to learn. Whatever it takes, I am dedicated to education and learning, so let me help you! I am also open and receptive to feedback, so let's make this a pleasurable experience!

Also, depending on time constraints and specific circumstances, I may be available for emergency tutorial sessions, in addition to helping with assignments/coursework or studying or reviewing material for specific tests. It is helpful to know your situation, so I can ensure that I can indeed help given the specifics of the situation.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

C++

I have and still do write C++ code, and understand many programming languages, including C++. I have taken CIT 120 at Bunker Hill (in Boston), and passed the class with an A). The course was entirely based on C++. I have also helped students out with C++ tasks, such as understanding code, writing programs and even interpreting intermediary tasks, such as how to write pseudocode (which allows an individual to more easily and coherently generate code), or modularity (which focuses on writing simple building blocks of code which are reusable, and thus more elegant).

Computer Programming

I majored in Computer Science, covering topics ranging from programming in different programming languages (C++, Java, Android, iOS, Swift, Python, HTML, SQL, etc.), to Computer Networking (Cisco classes), Linux Administration and Data Structures. I am also a long-time programmer and Linux user, having worked my entire life in the tech industry doing various technical jobs, such as System Administration, Dev/Ops and software development.

Java

As it specifically pertains to Java, I am a software developer, and have programmed intensively in Java. I have also taken Java courses as part of my computer science major, and I currently tutor several students in Java.

Best Math Tutor Ever!!!

The week before my Quantitative Reasoning final I found myself in a state of sheer panic. I procrastinated on some of the material and the math center tutors were NOT helping! Osa not only got me up to speed, he stayed with me late hours, was patient, never made me feel incompetent (even though math is not my strong point). I ended up getting an A on my final!!! My only regret is that I did not hi
