About Anne

My passion for teaching comes from a desire for life-long learning and application along with developing relationships with a variety of learners.

I mostly have experience teaching ESL but have also tutored Spanish, English and the SAT privately. I love collaborating with students to share with them my desire for life-long learning and to learn about my students' experiences. The age range of students I have tutored is 13-17. I am open to tutoring from ages 9-17.

I graduated with a BS in Bilingual Education (Secondary Track) from Boston University in 2015. have taught ESL in grades 7-12. I have also tutored at Bangor High School and have taught at several schools in Massachusetts. I have an Massachusetts Initial Teaching License in ESL for grades 5-12.

One of my goals for my students is for them to have challenging but meaningful work while adapting to a variety of learning styles. Tutoring should be mutually beneficial for the tutor and student ; ideally, I would like for the student to be able to use knowledge gained through our sessions and apply it to other areas in life. I am also open to teaching different strategies to adjust to students and am very receptive to feedback. When I have tutored for the SAT, I first evaluate which test-taking strategies would be best for them to use, quiz them and give them a vocabulary cheat sheet to study, and have them take a practice test a minimum of 3 times.

I currently teach ESL and love linguistics. Therefore, I understand how to improve one's English, one's writing and the structure/semantics of English. I am also very diligent with proofreading in that I not only can pick out grammatical errors but also can see patterns and offer strategies to help avoid these patterns.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
