About Rania

Welcome to my profile! Below, you will find a blurb about me, including a few of my qualifications:

I graduated from Boston University in 2015, Summa Cum Laude (GPA 3.86). I have experience working with ages 12-25. I have lived abroad, and worked with ESL students. I currently work at a non-profit organization that focuses on college readiness, access, and success. I also volunteer at a neuroscience/psychology lab.

I enjoy tutoring because I had a mentor who truly helped me succeed when things were difficult and when I did not have a clear sense of direction. This has really changed my perspective about learning. Creating a schedule, and regularly meeting with someone who keeps you engaged and focused makes a difference in one's success. I really hope to provide assistance and help students discover their interests and strengths, as this will develop their personal and professional identity. A huge part of my strategy of engaging students is not only to help with homework and studying, but to relate the subject material to topics that students cares about. Oh, and one other thing--I love the fact that I can learn so much along the way too.

I have experience in college-level subjects including: anthropology, philosophy, and psychology. I have done extensive thesis-writing in subjects in the humanities, and social sciences. In addition, I have conducted and managed many laboratory-related tasks, including experimental design. I also have a background in deductive logic, which is a very useful tool for technical writing as well as scientific disciplines. I can also prepare students for study abroad experiences (especially in Asia and Europe) as well as adjusting to the United States as a foreigner. Lastly, I focus a lot on time management, semester planning, and exam preparation.

If you have any interest in meeting, please do not hesitate to contact me. I'd be happy to have a non-abiding discussion about your needs before scheduling a session.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Religion

I took religion classes every year throughout elementary, middle, and high school. Then, I continued taking religion classes throughout college. Topics included: religion & secularism; death & immortality; medieval Kabbalah & Sufi mysticism; holy war in Christianity & Islam; Buddhism (The Life of Buddha) and Hinduism focused on the Mahabharata (Bhagavad Gita); anthropology of religion; ancient myths such as the Epic of Gilgamesh and sacred texts including the Old Testament; etc.). In addition, my senior psychology dissertation involved grouping test subjects by a scale of religiosity to determine how belief influences behavior.
