About Jessica

I feel that education is an investment in oneself and I recently have completed my Masters through Merrimack College in Mild and Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8). I feel that my educational background through Merrimack College and Bridgewater State University have prepared me well with a strong understanding of cognitive development in children. Through teaching in diverse school settings such as urban, multi-cultural, and multi-lingual classrooms I have been exposed to a variety of learning styles and techniques.

Related Work:

I currently am a Special Education Teacher in the Dedham Public School System. I work with children in the third and fourth grade in areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. I modify curriculum and provide accommodations to students so they can access the general education curriculum. I co-teach and work in a small group setting to provide special education services.

I had the privilege of working in the Haverhill Public School System for 2 years where I was selected by the principal to interview for Teacher of the Year. The Haverhill Public Schools District is very diverse in learners’ needs and abilities—about 1,000 students in schools receive Special Education Services. In the 2013-2014 school year I was a 3rd and 4th grade Academic Support Teacher where I differentiated instruction, modified classroom teachers’ lessons, and created Individualized Education Plans. During this school year I became familiar with Title I grants as I participated in extended day reading and mathematics tutoring. Through our dedicated efforts with focus on literacy we successfully closed the gap and made the leap from a Level 3 school to a Level 1 on state exams. During the 2014-2015 school year I was a 3rd grade classroom teacher where I developed, prepared, and delivered instructional activities using the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core State Standards.
