About Mir

Teaching others has always motivated me to discover the most effective way to understand challenging concepts. I believe that tutoring is all about finding an individualized learning strategy for each person, because we ultimately learn and approach concepts differently. Since I have been tutoring consistently for seven years, I have gained the ability to be flexible with my teaching in order to match my students' best interests and learning style. As an SAT and ACT tutor in high school, I had the privilege of seeing huge improvements in my students' scores in addition to a greater desire to learn. In college, I have tutored students with chemistry, biology, writing assignments, and math homework.

I love to see my students excel and find new interests in the subjects that I find fascinating, which include math, science, and writing. One of my goals is to motivate students to find new ways of challenging themselves without fear. I will assign additional practice homework after each lesson, but I will make sure that the workload is reasonable. I will try my absolute best to find the best resources for every individual, and to thoroughly prepare for lessons in order to maximize the value of the time that we have together.

I have always loved math. I am quick at understanding the concepts, and over time, I learned many strategies that I have used to help myself and others. I received a perfect score on the math section of both the ACT and SAT and can teach others to reach their target scores by implementing the studying and learning skills that I gained from preparing for the exams. I frequently tutor students in elementary math and algebra, and I am confident in my abilities to teach other math topics to students as well.

I am generally available every day starting from 5:30 pm, and any time during weekends. I am able to meet up with students or tutor them online. My base rate is $40/hour. Feel free to contact me for details or to set up a time!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary Math

I have taught math to over 20 students in the span of seven years. I also led a math club in high school and organized and after school math tutoring program in which I would tutor students with their math homework. My love for math makes me eager and committed to help others with any challenges they have on this subject.

MCAT

I took the MCAT over the summer and placed in the 95th percentile (scored 130 on three sections). I am very familiar with the format of the exam from extensive studying and tutoring. The new MCAT requires a knowledge of a broad range of topics, including psychology and biochemistry, and I am confident in my abilities to teach any challenging topic that may be featured in the exam. I have taken all of the necessary courses that are tested on the exam, and my psychology major (as well as my medical science major) has really helped me solidify my understanding of the topics. I have many great studying skills that I can help students incorporate into their studies, which is a crucial part of doing well on challenging exams like the MCAT.

Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry was my highest grade in college, and it was my favorite subject in the sciences. I have tutored several students who struggle with Organic Chemistry, and they have told me that my approach has been very useful for them. I often use three-dimensional objects during my teaching because I think one of the best ways to understand the conceptual and difficult parts about Organic Chemistry is with a model. This subject has always been the easiest for me to understand and I continue to review this subject for tutoring and for the MCAT, so the concepts are still fresh in my mind.

Physical Science

I tutor students regularly with physical science homework, and I am confident that I can improve your grades by giving you some great tips and effective ways of learning the material.
