About Madi

I love meeting new people, having conversations, and speaking French! I am creative and want to work with students to find ways that are easiest for them to learn. I have tutored French and Spanish to elementary, middle, high school students, and adults, tutored writing to college students, and have been a teacher's assistant in a project-based high school Earth Science class. Through this variety of roles, I have developed different tutoring techniques and worked with a range of students. For me, it is essential, especially in the first few sessions, to understand the student's background, what he/she hopes to accomplish, and which learning method he/she thinks may work best. Of course, learning is a process and so, as we continue on in the sessions, we can and should review and refine our approaches to ensure that the student is learning and feeling confident with the materials we covered.

I majored in Global Studies and French as an undergraduate student and have lived in immersive French settings, having spent weeks with various host families in France and months studying in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. Through these experiences, I have seen how important and enriching it is to converse in the local language and hope to help others strengthen their French skills so they can do the same. I am more than happy to have sessions completely focused on speaking in French or ones in which we review reading comprehension and/or grammar. It just depends on what the student needs!

I look forward to speaking with you. Please do not hesitate to write if you have any questions!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

French

I majored in French as an undergraduate student and have tutored French before for elementary and high school students. I have lived with different families in France and studied in the French-speaking section of Switzerland.
