About Robin

I tutor one-on-one or in small groups of 2-3 students in English as a Second Language (ESL) and Law School Legal Writing Skills and Oral Advocacy. My students are corporate executives, other professionals, and graduate students who seek to gain more confidence, improve their spoken and written English language skills, and prepare for English Language Proficiency tests. During our sessions, we work on a variety of skill building activities tailor-made to meet the needs of the particular student. A typical session can include: vocabulary and grammar, word pronunciation, intonation and usage, diction, phrasal verbs and idioms, interactive written exercises, reading short articles, building confidence with conversation and/or reviewing and editing written documents, testing taking exercises, presentations, and email drafting. I encourage my students to spend a certain amount of time practicing their pronunciation, listening and conversational skills on a daily basis. Students often come to class having heard expressions, idioms and slang used by English speakers through the media or conversations. Students take an active role in seeking to build their vocabulary of commonly used phrases, work-related terminology into their everyday conversations and writings. I have been tutoring ESL for over 4 years now and I have also taught large classes of adult international students at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.

I can tutor law students in Legal Writing Skills and to coach them in Oral Advocacy. I am a trial attorney in private practice with more than 26 years of experience in all aspects of the litigation process and oral advocacy, legal drafting and negotiation. I have supervised and mentored law students to help them with oral argument, client interviewing, witness preparation, legal drafting, and counseling. My highly developed communication skills allow me to help law students and other professionals become more comfortable using industry related terminology and simplifying those terms into everyday language.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

My background includes teaching English Language skills to American students and to adult professionals whose primary language is not English. I most recently work one on one and tailor tutoring sessions on the areas that my student wants to focus on. We can put together a program designed to meet your needs. I can help with speaking, writing, and comprehension.

ESL/ESOL

I have been tutoring professional executves in the IT industry whose primary language is Spanish for the last four years. My one-on-one sessions are tailored to meet the needs of each student. We focus on skill-building in speaking, writing, word usage and proper grammar.

I am a solo practitioner with 20 + years of experience in litigation, negotiation, and transactional legal skills. My areas of practice include family law and domestic relations, child welfare, criminal advocacy and civil litigation, housing and public benefits, employment and discrimination, immigration, and administrative agency hearings.
