About Stella

I currently work full-time at a think tank / policy group at Tufts University. At my role here, I am responsible for seeing study initiatives through. I am involved in putting together the study methodology, as well as analyzing the data gathered (both quantitative and qualitative), publishing the results in peer-reviewed manuscripts and also presenting the findings at conferences. I also oversee and mentor research analysts, teaching them research methods as well as how to best use tools such as Microsoft Excel, SAS (statistical analysis software) and Stata.

I am also pursuing a masters' degree (MS-Nutritional Epidemiology and MPH with a concentration in biostatistics and epidemiology) while here. This program is very science-oriented (I have taken numerous courses in Chemistry, Biology, Physiology, and Biochemistry) as well as statistics/epidemiology-oriented. I'm currently a teaching assistant for Principles of Biostatistics (where I have many one-on-one sessions with the students and also lead portions of the lecture), and I have been a teaching assistant of Introduction to SAS.

I also have tutoring experience as I have tutored high school and college students in algebra, statistics, writing, and Latin. As a tutor, I've learned that not all students learn using the same techniques, and so I have learned how to modify how I tutor based on the students' learning styles.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Macintosh

I have been using a mac since 1990 and understand the ins and outs of using it. Currently I am using MacOS Yosemite and have integration with my iPhone.

Microsoft Outlook

I have been using Microsoft Exchange (and therefore Outlook) for over 10 years. I am very well versed in using the calendar function, busy-searching people within the same company, adding tasks for individuals to complete and tracking their progress. I also know how to use the address book to make groups and send emails to the groups.

I am also familiar with mail-merging and sending e-mail blasts using Microsoft Word and Excel (and then sending out via Outlook).

Microsoft Windows

I have been using microsoft windows since Windows 2000. I trouble shoot windows when it acts up, as I have been the main IT person for my family. I have also walked my IT group at Tufts through how to fix some issues.

Public Speaking

I have spoken at 38 conferences from November, 2010 until today. My talk times have ranged from 10 minute (TED-like) to over an hour. I have also spoken in front of various groups: academics; pharmaceutical industry patient-recruitment experts; pharmaceutical pharmacovigilance professionals etc.

I am also a teaching assistant for a biostatistics course and create the presentations used in class as well as deliver portions of the lecture. I also have taken a public speaking course, which focused on the speaking aspects and not on the powerpoint presentation portion.

SAS

I have over 10 years of experience coding in SAS. I understand how SAS functions - the key differences between a data step and a proc step. I also know how to write macros for repetitive tasks.

STATA

I have been using STATA extensively for over two years now, and I teach STATA to others. I teach not only how to use the drop down menus, but I also teach how to create .do files.

Yoga

I am a basics-certified TriYoga yoga instructor, with over 10 years of practice and knowledge. Not only do I understand yoga asana, but I am also familiar with yoga philosophy, having read the Bhagavad Gita as well as Pantanjali's Yoga Sutras as well as other books on yoga philosophy and the anatomy of movement.
