About Christopher

My name is Chris, and I am a former high school math teacher who continues to work in the Education field. I have missed working with students and helping them reach that 'ah-ha!' moment that is possible for all students in all subjects. My philosophy stems from the idea that all students can learn, and it takes an acceptance of personal responsibility to make meaningful progress in schoolwork. Students who work with me will be taught not only the subject matter, but the appreciation of the topic that will make them appreciate being life-long learners.

I have extensive experience in tutoring, stretching from elementary to college students. My skills range from an expertise in math to a working knowledge of improving writing skills in students up to 12th grade. Each of my lessons are constructed in a way to maximize both personalized instruction and guided practice to give students the confidence to do work on their own. I give light homework to my tutored students that supplements the work we do in our sessions and make sure there is a set lesson ready for each meeting.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Basketball

I have experience working at multiple basketball camps and clinics throughout the Mid-Atlantic. I possess the knowledge of the game to improve players in all areas. I specialize in working with athletes looking to improve their shooting technique. Players will keep a notebook that tracks drills and their practice time throughout the week. We will also track continued progress throughout the teaching experience.
