University of Florida (English)
Boston University (Master's)
I am a recent graduate of Boston University's Master's in English and American literature program, and my love for teaching stems from my work with students over the years and the academic and personal bonds I have built with them. I also hold a B.A. in English literature from the University of Florida, and I graduated summa cum laude with specializations in Children's and Medieval Literature, as well as a minor in History.
I am passionate about pursuing a career in education, and have served as a tutor over the past seven years, and retain positive relationships with my former students today. Although I provide thorough and punctual feedback and encouragement, my goal is that my students ultimately view learning about reading and writing as processes, and to realize that progress is their individual responsibility. Most importantly, I aim to make literature and writing - which often seem difficult or imposing to students - more enjoyable and feasible. My tutoring areas include English language and literature, essay writing, proofreading and editing, SAT/ACT Verbal sections, grammar, vocabulary and other general writing and reading skills. I thoroughly enjoy working with young children, and have experience in working with bilingual students (Spanish/English) as they learn to read, write, and expand their vocabulary.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping ensure your success in your studies! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a Master's (Boston University, 2014) and Bachelor's (University of Florida, 2013) in English Language and Literature, and have tutored students in reading and writing (as well as English as a Foreign Language) for approximately 8 years now!
