I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy student at MGH Institute of Health Professions. I recently moved to Boston from my home state of California to pursue a physical therapy graduate degree. I graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Biology and a minor in Psychology. In college I worked as a tutor in the Psychology and Exercise Biology departments at UC Davis, and as a private in-home tutor. In total I have more than 7 years of tutoring experience.

Prior to relocating to Boston I was building my career in physical therapy by working as a physical therapy aide in several outpatient orthopedic clinics and volunteering at the local VA Rehabilitation Hospital. I am passionate about the health sciences and helping students achieve their academic goals. I am an original Harry Potter nerd and a sports fanatic. In my leisure time I enjoy being outdoors, watching sports, cooking, volunteering in the community and playing with dogs!

Please look over the list of subjects that I am available to tutor and contact me to set up your first tutoring session! I will gladly answer any further questions that you have about my qualifications in a direct message. Thank you for considering me to help you achieve academic success, good luck!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have completed coursework through college level calculus. I enjoy tutoring students in algebra subjects because with the right study methodology they can become independent learners! I help students identify how to start the problems, what to do if they get stuck, and highlight the importance of showing your work. In Algebra 1, it is still very important to visualize the math that is being performed through graphs and diagrams. I can help you achieve those skills so that you can tackle problem sets on your own. Algebra skills are attainable!

Anatomy

I am a current graduate student in physical therapy (DPT), thus currently receiving extensive coursework in advanced human anatomy. Cadaver dissection at Harvard Medical School. I completed 8 units of human anatomy coursework at UC Davis including cadaver dissection lab, and 5 units of human anatomy coursework at UC Berkeley extension program.

I believe that to be successful in studying anatomy an understanding of how structure and function influence each other is crucial. I aim to help students achieve this understanding in addition to memorizing and identifying the names and locations of anatomical structures.

Biology

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Biology with foundational academic courses in general biology, cell biology, biochemistry and of course my specialty of Exercise Biology (human physiology and biology, nutrition, etc).

Chemistry

I have completed coursework at UC Davis in inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry. I currently tutor students in high school and college level chemistry.

College Counseling

I have two years experience working as a Student Admissions Advisor at the UC Davis campus where I received training in the UC college application system and the UC/CSU college campuses. I am prepared to help students navigate through the confusing college admissions cycle by being a resource for information, deadlines, and providing tips for the most complete application. I am able to aid students in writing the very important personal statement essay and provide time management techniques to ensure that all applications are submitted on time.

Fitness

As a graduate student in physical therapy I have acquired an extensive academic background in the principles of exercise physiology, exercise prescription and fitness testing. I have the practical application skills to administer fitness assessment tests, create exercise plans, and answer health and fitness questions. I am available for a one time or a recurring consultation about fitness and exercise.

I am currently studying for my certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the NSCA.

I hope I can be of assistance to you and your fitness goals.

Physiology

I have a strong academic and practical background in human physiology.

As a physical therapy student I apply the concepts of human physiology in my clinical practice every day and have experience with specific laboratory tests and measures.

Psychology

I have a Minor in Psychology at UC Davis with a 3.8 GPA.

I encourage students to first develop a study method to outline and identify psychological concepts, terms, and related information before then engaging in discussion about the theories. I encourage students to think through the concepts and identify real life examples of psychological concepts.

Public Speaking

I have experience with public speaking for events with 5-1000 attendees. I am a current graduate student and regularly speak in front of a class of 70 people for professional and academic purposes. Previously, I was a campus tour guide at UC Davis providing daily 1.5 hour campus tours to groups of 15-30 people (all while walking backwards!) I have worked as a sports camp manager, high school rally commissioner and campus orientation leader all of which required me to regularly address audiences of 100+ people. I believe that the key to success when engaging in public speaking events is being prepared with your material and comfortable with your delivery. These components require practice and direction, both of which I can provide to you in judgement-free and encouraging way!
